It’s official, the Cork based hit comedy “The Young Offenders” is coming back for its fourth season on Friday May 10, 2024.
The series will be back on the screens after 4 years of wait. Still starring Conor MacSweeney (Alex Murphy) and Jock O'Keeffe (Chris Walley), we will follow their adventures airing from Friday May 10, on BBC One at 9.30pm.
The BBC earlier in the year released First Look images to tease the upcoming season.
Peter Foott on the upcoming season: “We’re so excited to be bringing all of the team back for the new series of The Young Offenders.”
“We’ve been able to change things up a little bit this time around, but the show is still true to its roots, we wanted to give the fans the same mix of funny storylines that are also heartfelt, so it’s very much the same show with all cast returning.”
While the show first aired on RTÉ in 2018, this new season won’t air on the Irish broadcaster until 2025 because of cost-cutting.
However, during its hiatus the show still delivered strong numbers, with 6.3 million requests to view on the BBC's iPlayer and even grew a British audience, actually all over the globe, being nominated for Best Direction of a TV Comedy in Australia.
The fourth and final series follows on from the hugely successful previous three series which originally aired on BBC Three, the 2018 Christmas special which saw the show move to BBC One for the first time and the box office smash feature film from 2016.
When announcing the new season, Ben Caudell, Commissioning Editor for BBC Comedy said: "We’re so happy to have The Young Offenders back on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, so that viewers once again enjoy the adventures, and misadventures, of all these brilliant comic characters - they may not be quite so young, but they’re still very much offenders."
